RamsProof User Guide: Generate a RAMS Document for UAE Contractors
What a RAMS Is and Why You Need One
RAMS stands for Risk Assessment and Method Statement — the standard health-and-safety document that main contractors, consultants and developers in the UAE require from subcontractors before work starts on site. The risk assessment part identifies each hazard, who is at risk, the initial risk rating, the control measures and the residual risk once controls are applied. The method statement part sets out the safe, step-by-step sequence of the works, with hold points, PPE and equipment.
In Dubai the expectation comes from the Dubai Municipality Code of Construction Safety Practice and the main contractor's HSE management system; in Abu Dhabi it sits under OSHAD-SF and the ADPHC Codes of Practice — including CoP 11.0, Safety in the Heat. Without an accepted RAMS you typically do not get a permit to work, and without a permit your crew does not get through the gate.
RamsProof generates this document from vetted templates instead of a blank Word file: you pick the work type, answer five short wizard steps, review the generated risk assessment and method statement, and download a PDF that is ready to submit.
Signing In and Access
RamsProof uses the same VerixHQ account as SparkProof and FieldProof — one registration covers all three products. Sign in at verixhq.com and open verixhq.com/app/ramsproof.
RamsProof is included in the Team plan. If your account is on Free or Pro, the app shows the upgrade prompt with the current price; upgrading unlocks the generator immediately.
Step 1 — Choose the Work Type
Every RAMS starts from one of seven work-type templates. Each template ships with prefilled hazards, control measures, method steps, PPE and plant lists written for UAE sites:
- Electrical Installation (LV)
- Cable Tray / Trunking / Containment Installation
- Distribution Board / Panel / Switchboard Installation
- Electrical Testing & Commissioning
- Work at Height (MEWP / Scaffold)
- Hot Works (Welding / Cutting / Grinding)
- Electrical Works in Occupied Premises
Steps 2–4 — Project Details, Scope and Permits
The wizard then walks you through three short steps. In Project details you enter what the submission header needs: project name, site address, client, main contractor and the emirate — the emirate matters because Dubai submissions sit under Dubai Municipality HSEMS while Abu Dhabi ones reference OSHAD-SF and the ADPHC Codes of Practice.
In Scope you describe the actual works: what you are doing, where on site, and the crew involved. Your answers calibrate the template — the generated method statement reflects your scope rather than a generic wall of text.
In Permits you tick the permits to work the job needs. RamsProof covers the standard UAE set and lists each permit with the issuing authority:
- Hot Work Permit (Dubai Civil Defence)
- Electrical Isolation / LOTO Permit
- Energization Permit
- Work at Height Permit
- MEWP Permit
- Confined Space Entry Permit
- Lifting Operations Permit
- Fire Alarm Isolation Permit (via FM)
- Building Access Permit (via FM / Security)
Step 5 — Review the 5×5 Risk Assessment
The final wizard step shows the generated content before the document is created: the hazard table, the method steps, PPE and plant. Every hazard is scored on the standard 5×5 matrix — likelihood from 1 (rare) to 5 (almost certain) multiplied by severity from 1 (negligible) to 5 (catastrophic) — and falls into one of four bands: low, medium, high or critical.
Each hazard shows two ratings: the initial score before controls and the residual score once the listed control measures are applied. A critical initial risk such as work on live LV equipment (20 — critical) should come down to a controlled residual band (for example 5 — medium) through isolation permits, DEWA-enrolled electricians and test-before-touch procedures. If a residual score still sits in high or critical, treat that as a signal to strengthen the controls before you submit.
Draft PDF, Issue and Revisions
When you create the document it starts life as a draft. The draft PDF carries a diagonal DRAFT watermark — it is meant for internal review, toolbox talks with your supervisor and pre-submission checks, not for sending to the main contractor.
Once your competent person has reviewed and calibrated the content, press Issue. Issuing removes the watermark, stamps the issue date and locks the document — an issued RAMS is the version you submit to the main contractor or developer, and it can no longer be edited.
Need a revision — for example when the scope changes or the main contractor asks for amendments? Use Duplicate: it creates an editable draft copy of the issued document with a new document number, so you adjust the copy, issue it and keep the full revision chain intact.
Keeping Your RAMS Organized
All your documents live in the RamsProof list with their status, document number and work type, so the current version of every RAMS is one search away. Drafts stay editable in place; issued documents open in a read-only view with the duplicate action for the next revision.
A practical pattern for UAE projects: one RAMS per work type per project, issued before mobilization and duplicated whenever site conditions change. When the consultant or the main contractor's HSE team asks for the latest version, you download the issued PDF and send it the same day.
